Happy Pi Day!!

Happy Pi Day!!

Today is Pi Day. 3.14. Unfortunately the year is wrong… in 3 years, we will be able to celebrate 03.14.15 (at 9:26:53 am) which will be a very exciting day.

I’ve always been a math-y type, and have been fascinated by pi since I learned about it in 1st grade.

I learned a number of digits of it, and can rattle them off on command. Pi gives me comfort – it’s an infinite number, but never changing.

3.1415926535897932384626433827950… (That’s as far as I can go from memory…)

So happy pi day!

Today I wore my amazing PI shirt to celebrate:

Unfortunately, I did not make or eat any pie. There’s still time left though, maybe I’ll get on that before bed. (highly doubtful, but I can dream, right?) Go check out the awesome cake that Aspieside made for Pi day. It looks fantastic!

And finally, a cutsie math comic to finish out this short little post:

And if you haven’t already, please read my post about the Loud Hands Project, and go donate! They’ve only got about 28 hours left to raise money for this amazing cause (at the time of hitting publish, that is). I’ve now donated twice (yay for new month’s paycheck), and hope that if you haven’t heard about this fantastic Autistic advocacy project yet, you go do so, because it is so amazing and worthwhile. Thanks, and Happy PI day!

p.s. A major post (series of 2) is forthcoming. Stay tuned for either tomorrow or Friday for part 1. I have finals coming up next week so I’m going into study/hibernation mode, but I wrote most of it this morning while my car was getting serviced – it just needs polishing now. Hopefully it’ll be out soon.

  1. Hey thanks for linking to my blog post! We are definitely mathy people here as well. My son especially 🙂 One of his classrooms at school had Pi as a border around the room so I found it online and put it up in his “other room”. That way he can continue to memorize the numbers. We did eat our cake today at 1:59 PM 🙂

    • That’s awesome! I will admit that my memorization of Pi got stymied by the fact that my parents wouldn’t let me online, so I had to make due with the 20 or so digits that were displayed on the calculator built into windows 95 (the operating system on the “family” computer for much of my early years). And of course I had to link to your post! That cake looked super duper yummy. I wanted to put a picture of it, but figured that would be stealing your photo… so I linked you instead. I hope everyone goes to see your awesome cake and post. 🙂

  2. Ha! This post seriously made me smile. Between looking forward to 3-14-15, to that hilarious shirt, to “3.1415926535897932384626433827950… (That’s as far as I can go from memory…” I adore your mathematical quirkiness.

    • Thanks 🙂 I’m glad it made you smile. I enjoyed writing it. This blog is far too full of unhappy thoughts, and in reality, I’m a very bubbly, bouncy, happy person, so I like having fun posts now and again. 🙂 Thanks for the comment!

      • Honestly, if you ever did decide to write a book you could very easily be my favorite author.

  3. I never really got past the formula and the test with pi. Interesting that it is both infinite and never changing. I was so not a math person. But I adored geometry and logic. It was the proofs – any reason to argue. lol
